As many of you may already know, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Named and Numbers) revealed the applications it received for newTLDs on June 13, 2012. Some high-level information on the applications are as follows:
- ICANN received a total of 1930 applications after withdrawals
- 1846 of these were "standard" applications
- 84 were designated as "community" applications
- 66 were designated as "geographic name" applications
- 116 applications are IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names)
- Applications were received from 60 different countries
- 911 applications from North America
- 675 from Europe
- 303 from Asia-Pacific
- 24 from Latin America/Caribbean
- 17 from Africa
- 230 applications had at least 2 or more applicants (751 competing applications), which will result in auctions if approved

- Donuts.co, a company led by Internet industry entrepreneurs with highly successful track records, applied for 307 new Top-Level-Domains. View Press Release

- Snapnames Co-Founder, Ray King, is applying for 10 new Top-Level-Domains. View
- Neustar has been selected to be the Registry Services Provider for 358 Top-Level-Domain applications. View Press Release
- Frank Schilling applies for 54 new Top-Level-Domains according to Paul Sloan of CNET. View
- VeriSign is the backend provider for 220 new Top-Level-Domain applicants while also applying for 14 themselves. View
